Who is Oso?
Well, it’s me! Hi, I’m Alexandra Osorio. I’m a photographer of Colombian descent and people have been mispronouncing my last name all my life.
One of the many iterations has been “Oso Rio,” which, directly translated from Spanish, means “Bear River.” Oso then became a cute nickname in college and has made its way into all my creative endeavors. Psst…in case you were wondering, it’s pronounced like this.
Photography has always held a special place in my creative heart. As a child, I begged my mother for a camera but we could not afford even an entry level piece of equipment at that time. I would not entertain flirtations with the creative pull until much later in life. My roots are of humble and hardworking people and, in turn, my life path was molded by the self-imposed pressures that come with an ingrained cultural belief that academia could be the only recourse for survival. My background is not of artistic expression but of science and objective truths. I hold a B.S. in Biomedical Science and Behavioral Studies and a minor in Health Science. It is through this foundation, however, that I have learned to love and appreciate the subjective. It is through knowledge of our natural surroundings and physiological processes that I can appreciate our creative capacity as unique beings. And it is through the understanding of the logical and methodical, that I can relish in the unabashed expression of self through art in whatever form it may take.
Simply, my aim at Oso Creative is to create. To give life to the seemingly mundane and to elevate it into art form.
